IWAN POL
Witness the creative interplay of colors and volume in Iwan Pol's 'Picknickboxes
Since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2015, Iwan Pol has been passionately exploring how interactive and imaginative designs can elevate ordinary products into sources of joy and engagement. His artistic journey is guided by a profound fascination with the interplay between the physical environment and our bodies. Pol investigates how various design elements—such as color, form, material, and texture—can evoke distinct emotions and transform our sensory experiences.
Central to Pol’s work is the belief that our interactions with physical objects play a crucial role in shaping our emotional responses and overall well-being. Although his explorations sometimes lead him into the realm of abstract art, his extensive background in product design continually drives him to apply these insights to everyday objects. By meticulously examining how design elements affect human experiences, Pol aims to create playful, interactive items that not only delight the senses but also enhance daily life.
Through his creative process, Pol strives to build a deeper connection between individuals and their surroundings. By transforming commonplace objects into engaging, sensory-rich experiences, he aspires to foster a more joyful and fulfilling existence. His approach reflects a broader vision that design is a powerful tool for improving how we relate to the world. Through innovation and imagination, Pol seeks to make ordinary moments extraordinary, demonstrating how thoughtful design can enrich our everyday interactions and elevate the quality of our lives.

"In my work, the interplay between the digital and physical worlds is central. While digital stimuli engage mostly our eyes and ears, physical stimuli interact with all our senses, offering a deeper, more tangible experience. This difference drives me to explore how physical elements like color, form, and texture evoke emotions. My artistic practice examines this interaction and applies these insights to both abstract art and everyday objects, aiming to enhance our sensory connection to the physical world."

"My creative process typically starts with a color. Just like music, color can evoke an emotion or image instantly. I use this image as a starting point and then explore other colors, shapes, and textures until a physical harmony is achieved. I see myself as a sort of musician; instead of composing with sound, I compose with colors and materials."

"At the moment, I am fully engaged in building our house/studio. Once that project is complete, I plan to refocus on creating autonomous work, commissions, and design assignments."

"Over the past eight years, I have worked extensively with concrete. A dream project would be an architectural translation of my experiments with this material for public spaces."
